In the Kitchen: Spring Panzanella Salad

Last summer I became obsessed with Ina Garten's Panzanella Salad. It was an easy side dish or light lunch that could be thrown together easily. Last week, I found myself craving this salad, but sadly summer fruits and vegetables are not in season here. So, I whipped together a spring version and it satisfied my craving. The crisp asparagus, radishes, and leeks pair perfectly with the tender spinach and crunchy croutons. Try this salad for your next backyard bbq. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Spring Panzanella Salad

1 ciabatta roll, cubed
1/2 bunch asparagus
1 leek
1/2 bunch radishes
4 cups baby spinach
1/2 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
1 garlic clove
1/8 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 lemon, juiced

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Toss cubed ciabatta with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper in a roasting pan. Bake for 10 minutes, flipping once until golden brown. Set aside to cool.

Fill a small saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Cut asparagus into 1 inch pieces. Blanch for about 1 minute until bright green. Immediately place in an ice bath and allow to cool.

Toss asparagus, radishes, leeks, and baby spinach in a large salad bowl.

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together white wine vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, dijon mustard, and a little salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in olive oil until combined. Drizzle over salad into moistened. Add croutons. Server immediately.

Style: Breezy Shirtdress

Dress: Equipment (similar) // Sandals: Zara // Bag: Kate Spade // Sunglasses: Karen Walker

We spent last weekend celebrating our first wedding anniversary in New Orleans. We haven't been in three years so we were both excited to eat our way through The Garden District. This Equipment shirtdress was perfect for exploring the streets of New Orleans. The city isn't known for great weather so I knew the lightweight silk and boxy cut would keep me cool and comfortable. My only complaint is that it did get a little wrinkly, but that is the price you pay in a humid city.

Simple Black Dress

Dress: Madewell (similar) // Sandals: Gap (similar) // Bag: Kate Spade // Bracelet: Banana Republic// Sunglasses: Karen Walker

I picked up this dress at Madewell over Christmas, but found it difficult to wear. It is a bit on the sheer side so tights and boots made it feel heavy and a little dumpy. I gave it another try last week for an afternoon of wine tasting, and it was the perfect little black dress for the occasion. The lightweight silk is great for the warmer months ahead, and the simple shape makes it wearable for everyday use. I paired it with a patterned scarf a few days later and the look was equally stylish. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this little black dress this summer.

Year One

Sunday was our one-year anniversary. It is hard to believe that we already have the first year of marriage behind us, but so much has changed that it feels like five years have passed. In our first year we moved, started new jobs and school, and are now living 850 miles apart. At times, it was incredibly stressful, but I couldn't do it with anyone else by my side. I know the next few years will be full of stressful situations and hard decisions as Will finishes his law degree, and I'm already a little upset that we only have two years left in Charlottesville, but I am so proud of my husband and all that he has accomplished this year. I am thankful that we were able to spend our anniversary together, and I am going to cherish our last few hours together before I am back on a flight home.

Friday Favorites: Little White Dresses

ONE // TWO // THREE

Rebecca Taylor launched a summer collection full of bright white pieces, and each piece is unique, with either mixed materials or laser-cut detailing. I love all of her cropped lace tops, but I'm especially found of her white dress collection. White dresses are the epitome of summer. Perfect paired with a nice wedge and clutch or sandals and a large tote. I'll be in New Orleans this weekend to celebrate our first anniversary, and though I do not own one of these beautiful dress, I will be wearing a little white dress of my own.

Style: Stitched Sweater

Sweater: Gap // Jeans: Anthoropologie // Sandals: Gap (similar) // Bag: Kate Spade // Necklace: J.Crew // Sunglasses: Karen Walker

I've spoken before about my love for a Spring Sweater. They are versatile, easy to accessorize, and perfect for a breezy afternoon downtown. I picked up this sweater at Gap a few weeks ago while they were having a promotion. I've worn it a handful of times, usually with jeans, but looking forward to pairing it with a skirt or possibly over a dress.

Style: Summer Brights

Dress: Anthropologie // Sandals: J.Crew (similar + extra 25% off) // Bag: Kate Spade // Sunglasses: Karen Walker

I tend to wear cooler colors: blues, pinks, and a lot of grey. They work well with the cool undertones in my complexion and it makes getting dressed easier, but every once in a while it is fun to throw on something a little brighter. I picked up this dress at Anthropologie a few months ago to wear to a friends wedding rehearsal, but sadly it has not been warm enough to wear it in Charlottesville until now. It looks great paired with a jean jacket, but I love it most with a matching lip and metallic sandal. I plan on wearing this little orange dress all summer long.
